Course Objective<\/h2>\n

This course is a unique two-day lecture and hands-on cadaver experience. It offers the unique opportunity for each participant to learn head and neck anatomy pertinent for performing implant, oral and periodontal surgery. Each participant will learn the placement of root form dental implants in a unique step-by-step fashion, followed by seeing actual videos of these procedures. Each participant will then actually perform these procedures on freshly frozen cadavers under the direct supervision of the course instructors.<\/p>\n

The objective of this course is to inform and assist each participant in achieving a higher level of clinical comfort with the placement of dental implants, manipulation of surgical flaps, obtaining of tension-free surgical closure and proper suture materials, and the methods to use for each of these therapies.<\/p>\n

This course includes the fundamental biomechanics & biology of bone as well as the rationale for the diagnosis, treatment planning, and the clinical practice of placing root form dental implants. The course will also cover informed consent, pre and post-surgical considerations, possible pathways for post-surgical infection, and management of post-surgical complications.<\/p>\n

      Dr. Favagehi graduated from Medical College of Virginia School of Dentistry in 1994. He completed his specialty training in periodontics & dental implant surgery at Ohio State University\u00a0in 1997 where he also received a Master of Science degree in Oral Biology and received a research award for groundbreaking research on surgical wound healing.<\/p>\n

      Dr. Favagehi has been an adjunct faculty member (Clinical Assistant Professor) at the Dept. of Periodontics (VCU School of Dentistry). In 2011, he received a Teaching Award from the American Academy of Periodontology. He is an active presenter nationally and internationally.<\/p>\n

      Dr. Raymond van Gennip is an experienced periodontist who uses today\u2019s most effective technology and therapies to achieve optimal gum health. What he does goes far beyond scaling and root planing (there are more ways to promote healthy gums than you think). His broad educational background in medicine and dentistry gives him a unique perspective on periodontal care \u2013 and a strong focus on promoting gum health instead of just treating gum disease.<\/p>\n

      Dr. van Gennip is a faculty member at Dental Seminars, LLC teaching advanced surgical techniques in both periodontics and implant dentistry.
